Etymology[edit]

From Aramaic תְּשַׁעֵסְרֶא (təšaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܸܫܲܥ (tišaʿ, nine) +‎ ܥܸܣܲܪ (ʿisar, ten); compare Arabic تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ (tisʕa ʕašrata) and Hebrew תְּשַׁע עֶשְׂרֵה (t'shá' 'esré).
