[edit]Derived from Prakrit 𑀅𑀔𑀚𑁆𑀚 (akhajja), from Sanskrit अखाद्य (akhādya).[1] The second short vowel is unexpected, since the geminate jj should result in *अखाज (akhāj). Related to खाजा (khājā, “Khaja”).
