Etymology

    Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *आडु (āḍu, peach), a wanderwort of unknown origin. See there for more. Cognate with Classical Persian آلُو (ālū), whence Hindi आलू (ālū). Also cognate within Indo-Aryan with Punjabi ਆੜੂ (āṛū) and Sindhi آڙو (āṛo).
