[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian قاموس (qāmūs), from Arabic قَامُوس (qāmūs), ultimately from Ancient Greek ὠκεανός (ōkeanós). It came to be used as a word for dictionary in arabic after a lexicon published named Al-qamus (see: w:Firuzabadi)
