Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Nepali काठमाडौं (kāṭhmāḍa͠u). Ultimately from Sanskrit काष्ठमण्डप (kāṣṭhamaṇḍapa, “a temple in Durbar Square”) from काष्ठ (kāṣṭha, “wood”) + मण्डप (maṇḍapa, “pavilion”).
