Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Nepali काठमाडौं (kāṭhmāḍa͠u). Ultimately from Sanskrit काष्ठमण्डप (kāṣṭhamaṇḍapa, a temple in Durbar Square) from काष्ठ (kāṣṭha, wood) +‎ मण्डप (maṇḍapa, pavilion).
