(deprecated template usage) From Proto-Indo-Iranian *krináHti, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷrinéh₂ti, from *kʷreyh₂-. Cognate with Manichaean Middle Persian xryn (“to buy”), Old Irish crenaid, Old Church Slavonic крьнути (krĭnuti), Ancient Greek ἐπριάμην (epriámēn).[1] The long ī is unexpected and metrically represents kriṇā́ti with short i.
