Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀻 (tiḍḍī) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), ultimately from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀢𑁆𑀭𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟 (*triḍḍa). Cognate to Gujarati તીડ (tīḍ).
