Borrowed from Classical Persian تَعْرِیف (ta'rīf), from Arabic تَعْرِيف (taʕrīf), from عَرَّفَ (ʕarrafa), from the root ع ر ف (ʕ r f). Cognate with English tariff, hence doublet of टैरिफ़ (ṭairif).
