From Proto-Indo-Aryan *túṣyati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tušyáti, from Proto-Indo-European *tus-yé-ti, from *tews- (“to be happy”). Cognate with Hittite [script needed] (tu-uš-ki-ez-zi /⁠tuškezzi⁠/, “to be happy”).

     The deities of Tuṣita and Śuddhāvāsa became calm
     Through the great esteem toward the dharma and the compassion toward sentient beings.
