Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dawṣáH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dawšáH, from Proto-Indo-European *dowséh₂. Cognate with Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬊𐬱 (daoš, “night, last night”) and Classical Persian دوش (dōš, “last night”).
