Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *h₃ni-n-d-e-ti (to revile), nasal infix present of *h₃neyd-. Cognate with Gothic 𐌽𐌴𐌹𐌸 (neiþ, hatred, spite), Latvian naids (hatred), Ancient Greek ὄνειδος (óneidos, reproach).[1]
