[edit]Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *पाहाड (pāhāḍa), possibly from Sanskrit पाषाण (pāṣāṇa). Cognate with Nepali पहाड (pahāḍ), Punjabi ਪਹਾੜ (pahāṛ), Gujarati પહાડ (pahāḍ), Bengali পাহাড় (pahaṛ), Assamese পাহাৰ (pahar), Sylheti ꠙꠣꠀꠠ (faaṛ).
