[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian بَنْگَال (bangāl), with itself being borrowed from Middle Bengali বাঙ্গালা (baṅgala) ultimately derived from Sanskrit वङ्ग (vaṅga), the name of the Vanga Kingdom.
