[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hmáyȷ́ʰati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃méyǵʰeti, from *h₃meyǵʰ- (“to urinate”).
Cognate with Latin mēiō, Ancient Greek ὀμείχω (omeíkhō), Old English mīġan, Serbo-Croatian мижати (mìžati), Persian میختن (mixtan). Compare also English micturate, a Latin borrowing. Related to मेह (méha).
