Borrowed from Persian یونان (yunân), from Old Persian 𐎹𐎢𐎴 (yauna, Ionia), from Ancient Greek Ἰωνία (Iōnía, Ionia). Likely influenced by Sanskrit यवन (yavana, a Greek), Arabic اَلْيُونَان (al-yūnān).
