From Magadhi Prakrit *𑀨𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀼 (*phaggu), Sanskrit ফল্গু (phalgu, red; reddish; red coloured powder;spring).

ফাঙ্কু (phaṅku)

    • 15th-16th century, Sankardeva, Kirtan Ghosha Uresha Varnan:
      ৰঙ্গে ফাঙ্কু খেলে চৈতন্য বনমালী।
      দুয়োহাতে ফাল্গু-গুড়া সিঞ্চন্ত মুৰাৰি॥
      roṅge phaṅku khele coitonjo bonomalī,
      duyöhate phalgu-guṛa siñconto murari.
      Genius Krishna plays Holi with coloured powder with joy.
      Krishna sprinkles coloured powder with both hands.
