Inherited from Prakrit 𑀉𑀟𑁆𑀟𑁂𑀇 (uḍḍei), from Sanskrit उड्डयते (uḍḍayate). Cognate with Old Hindi उडना (uḍanā), Old Gujarati उडए (uḍae), ऊडए (ūḍae), ऊडइ (ūḍaï, present indicative, third person singular), Old Marathi 𑘄𑘚𑘜𑘹 (uḍaṇe), Middle Bengali উড় (uṛ).
