Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀁𑀪𑀸𑀭 (kuṃbhāra), 𑀓𑀼𑀁𑀪𑀆𑀭 (kuṃbhaāra), from Sanskrit कुम्भकार (kumbhakāra). Cognate with Old Marathi 𑘎𑘳𑘽𑘥𑘰𑘨 (kuṃbhāra), Middle Bengali কুম্ভার (kumbhar).
