Inherited from Middle Gujarati गांधी, from Apabhramsa गंधीय (gaṃdhīya), from Prakrit 𑀕𑀁𑀥𑀺𑀅 (gaṃdhia), from Sanskrit ગાન્ધિક (gāndhika, “perfumer”).^[1]
