From Proto-Tai *n̩.loŋᴬ (“to descend”). Cognate with Thai ลง (long), Northern Thai ᩃᩫ᩠ᨦ, Lü ᦟᦳᧂ (lung), Tai Dam ꪶꪩꪉ, Shan လူင်း (lúung), Ahom 𑜎𑜤𑜂𑜫 (luṅ), Zhuang roengz.
