[edit]Cognate to Burmese စပ် (cap, “hot, spicy”) and Tangut 𘟌 (*tsar¹, “pepper”); their common ancestor would be Proto-Sino-Tibetan *rtsap (“Sichuan pepper”). The Kurtöp word is the only surviving reflex of this term in any of the Bodish languages.
Also related to Chali ཆཽ (chau).
