Etymology 1

[edit]

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *taŋ¹ ~ *m-daŋ² (“to think, feel an emotion”); cognate with Lahu [Term?] (dɔ³, “to think”) (STEDT). Luce apparently compares Old Chinese 呈 (OC *rleŋ, *l'eŋs, “to manifest”), though the phonetics of the Old Chinese reconstruction make a relation uncertain.[1]
