Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Burmese ရျှတ် (rhyat),[1] from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *pV-rjat (“eight”). Cognate with Lhao Vo she', Tibetan བརྒྱད (brgyad), Jingpho matsat, Nuosu ꉆ (hxit), S'gaw Karen ဃိး (ghó).
