From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Kartvelian *ḳwed-, *ḳwd-. Compare სიკვდილი (siḳvdili, death) and კვდება (ḳvdeba) (and its verbal noun კვდომა (ḳvdoma)) from the same source.
