From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Georgian ნემსი (nemsi), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *nems₁-. Cognate with Mingrelian ლეფში (lepši) and Laz ლემში (lemşi).

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Georgian-Zan *nems₁-. Bouda derives the latter from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sīw-, but this is considered uncertain by Klimov.
