Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish چوروك آی (çürük ay, literally month of decay), whence also dialectal (Black Sea) Turkish çürük ay, Laz ჩურუღაჲი (çuruğayi), Hamshen Armenian չուրուխ (čʻurux).
