Proto-Norse

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Germanic *hlaiwidǭ, first-person singular present indicative of *hlaiwijaną.

Verb

[edit]

ᚺᛚᚨᚨᛁᚹᛁᛞᛟ (hlaaiwido /hlaiwidō/)

  1. first-person singular past active indicative of *ᚺᛚᚨᛁᚹᛁᛃᚨᚾ (*hlaiwijan)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The double ᚨᚨ (aa) is most likely a spelling error; the carver may have been inattentive, accidentally making an extra stroke to what was supposed to be an (l), so that *ᚺᛚ (*hl) became ᚺᚨ (ha). In order to correct his error, he then added a twig to the preceding (h), turning it into a bindrune ᚺ=ᛚ (h=l).
