Letter

(ʼaʼ)

  1. Deprecated independent vowel, no longer used. Use (ʼɑɑ) instead.

Usage notes

The independent vowel (ʼaʼ) and the consonant (ʼɑɑ) look identical. After the Unicode alphabet was used for a few years, it became clear that having two separate but visually identical letters was confusing and led to a lot of misspellings. It was decided that the symbol (ʼɑɑ) should be used for both the consonant and the vowel.
