Ancient Macedonian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unknown. Apparently equivalent to Ancient Greek ῥυμοί (rhumoí), according to Hesychius of Alexandria.

Witczak (1995) conciders it a cognate of Ancient Greek ὄζος (ózos, “branch”), with -δδ- used to respresent (the reflex of) *-zd-. [1] If this comparison is correct, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ósdos.
