Etymology

According to Beekes, Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pregrc" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. "without a doubt". Suspecting originally an appellative word for "mountain", he tentatively identified suffix -ump-.

Probably cognate with Mycenaean Greek [script needed] (u-ru-pi-ja-jo, description of men, possibly ethnical), which may indicate original /u/ in the anlaut.
