ⴰⴱⵔⵉⴷ
Appearance
Central Atlas Tamazight
[edit]Etymology
[edit]- Borrowed from Early Medieval Latin verēda (“path, main road”), from Latin veredus (“courier's horse”).
- Or, related to Proto-Semitic *ʕabar- (“to cross”). Some words appear to have preserved the non-geminate *β, e.g. ⴱⴷⴷ (bdd, “to stand”), ⴰⴱⴰⴱⴱⵓⵥ (ababbuẓ, “bear”). Possibly also related to Tuareg ăbbărbăr (“to go out, leave”).
Cognate with Kabyle abrid, Tarifit abrid, Tashelhit abrid.
