Borrowed from Classical Persian خواب (xwâb), from Middle Persian 𐭧𐭥𐭠𐭡 (hwʾb), from Proto-Iranian *hwápati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swap-. Cognate with Bengali খোয়াব (khōẇab), Hindustani خواب / ख़्वाब (xvāb), Punjabi ਖਵਾਬ (khavāb), Gujarati ખ્વાબ (khvāb). Doublet of ꠡꠙ꠆ꠘ (śofno).
