Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Karen *hmeᴮ (“fire”) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *me² (“idem”) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *mej (“fire”). Cognate with Pa'o Karen မေႏ, S'gaw Karen မ့ၣ် (maỳ), Western Pwo မ့ၪ.
