Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Karen *rowᴮ (snake) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *ɣy¹ (idem) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-b/m-ruːl (snake). Cognate with Pa'o Karen ရူး, S'gaw Karen ဂုၢ် (ghu̱), Western Pwo ဂူ.
