Etymology

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 바회 (Yale: pahwoy).

Compare also Jeju 바위 (bawi) and Gyeongsang 바구 (bagu), 방구 (banggu) and 바우 (bau).
