First attested in the Hancheong mungam (한청문감 / 漢淸文鑑), 1773~1779, as Middle Korean 니야기 (Yale: niyaki).
Also attested in the Yeogeo yuhaebo (譯語類解補 / 역어유해보), 1775, as Early Modern Korean 니야기 (Yale: niyaki).
