Etymology

A derivation from ๐ฐ‹๐ฐƒ๐ฑ…๐ฐƒ (biti-, โ€œto write, inscribeโ€). Cognate to Old Uyghur [script needed] (bitig, โ€œinscription, scriptureโ€), Karakhanid [script needed] (bitig, โ€œanything written; book, letter...โ€), Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (biti, โ€œletter, written documentโ€), Bashkir ะฑะตั‚ะตาฏ (betew, โ€œamuletโ€).
