Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ạbuč, later devolved into 𐽰𐽰𐽱𐽳𐾀 (ʾʾβwt) and 𐽰𐽰𐽱𐽳𐽽 (ʾʾβwč).

𐽰𐽰𐽸𐽳𐾀 (ʾʾdwt) is most likely the original form, with other reflexes avut and avuč perhaps undergoing the sound shift *-v- < *-y- < *-δ- < *-d- with influence from Karluk Turkic (for the sound change, compare Old Turkic 𐰑𐰍 (adïg) <> Karakhanid اَذِغْ (aδïɣ) <> Chagatai آيق (ayïq).)
