Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀕𑀳𑀻𑀭 (gahīra), from Sanskrit गभीर (gabhīrá). Compare Old Hindi गहर (gahara), Old Punjabi ਗਹਿਰੁ (gahiru).
