Inherited from Proto-Hellenic *tʰés-pʰatos; equivalent to θέσ- (thés-, god) +‎ φατός (phatós, spoken, from φημί (phēmí) "to speak"); compare θέσκελος (théskelos), θεσπέσιος (thespésios).
