Inherited from Old Ruthenian до́брый день (dóbryj denʹ), from Old East Slavic добрꙑи дьнь (dobryi dĭnĭ), from Proto-Slavic *dòbrъ dь̏nь. By surface analysis, univerbation of до́брий (dóbryj, good) +‎ день (denʹ, day). Compare Polish dobrydzień, Belarusian дабры́дзень (dabrýdzjenʹ).
