The original spelling is աւգուտ (awgut), borrowed from Parthian 𐫀𐫁𐫄𐫇𐫅 (ʾbǧwd /⁠aβɣūd⁠/, increased, multiplied), ultimately a derivative of Proto-Iranian *HabiǰáHuti ~ *HabiguHánti.
