[edit]Inherited from Old Gujarati मीठउं (mīṭhaüṃ), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞 (miṭṭha), from Sanskrit मिष्ट (miṣṭa), from earlier मृष्ट (mṛṣṭa, “polished”), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hmr̥ṣṭás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hmr̥štás, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃mr̥ǵ-tó-s (“wiped”), from *h₃merǵ- (“to wipe”). Cognate to Marathi मीठ (mīṭh, “salt”).
