for- +‎ legge; from Middle Low German vorlegen, vorleggen. Compare with the German verb verlegen (misplace).

forlegge (imperative forlegg, present tense forlegger, passive forlegges, simple past forla, past participle forlagt, present participle forleggende)

  1. to misplace, mislay (putting something somewhere, then forgetting its location)
  2. to deploy; station; relocate
    Troppene ble forlagt til byen.
    The troops were stationed in the city.
  3. to make all arrangements for the publication of a book etc.
  4. to make a correcting adjustment
    forlegge siktepunkt
    in using a firing weapon, adjust aiming point due to conditions
  5. to lay (e.g. a cable in a trench)
