Etymology

From Proto-Albanian * ̊śali(m)-, from Proto-Indo-European *séh₂ls (salt). Cognate to Ancient Greek ἅλιμος (hálimos, of the sea, sea). Enlargement with the prefix (a)n-. The root vowel points to umlaut, caused by -i- of the following syllable.
