From German Plüsch, English plush, Yiddish פּליוש (plyush), Polish plusz, Russian плюш (pljuš), all from French peluche, ultimately from Medieval Latin *piluccāre, from pilō (“I put forth hairs, grow hairy; become bald, depilate”). Compare Dutch pluche, Portuguese pelúcia, Hungarian plüss.
