Via Low German agurke or Dutch agurk from Polish ogórek, from Byzantine Greek ἀγγούριον (angoúrion, melon). Possibly a derivation from ἄγουρος (ágouros, unripe), from Ancient Greek ἄωρος (áōros, unripe).
