Etymology

Borrowed from Byzantine Greek ἀρχιεπίσκοπος (arkhiepískopos), from ἀρχι- (arkhi-, first, chief) +‎ ἐπίσκοπος (epískopos, overseer), partly through South Slavic, or Old Church Slavonic архіепископъ (arxiepiskopŭ); compare Serbo-Croatian and Bulgarian архиѐпископ.
