Romanian

Etymology 1

see usca.

Verb

usuc

  1. first-person singular present indicative/subjunctive of usca

Etymology 2

Uncertain. Possibly from the verb usca or alternatively from Latin sucus, contaminated with the former (see also suc, which may be a borrowed doublet). Another theory suggests an Ancient Greek root *οἴσυκος (*oísukos) < οἴσυπος (oísupos).

Noun

usuc n (plural usucuri)

  1. (rare, regional) sebum, an oily substance covering the wool sheared from a sheep, which is then washed off
  2. (rare, regional) the dirty water consisting of this washed out material
