Etymology
Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (qonşu)[1], ultimately from Proto-Turkic *Kon- (“neighbour; friend; guest”), whence also Azerbaijani qonaq (“guest”). Compare Turkish komşu, Uzbek qoʻshni, Turkmen goňşy, Kyrgyz кошуна (koşuna, “guest”), Kumyk хоншу (xonşu).
